Grappling with the next phase of our lives and as we draw a close to the year 2021, we are welcoming 2022 with high hopes. People from all over the globe had their fair share of ups and downs, including the Filipinos in the past year. Difficult is an understatement of the journey that we had as individuals, as a community, and as a nation in the year 2021, there is no other way to go but hope for a better year in 2022.

Lives were lost, dreams were crushed, conflicts were made, and struggles were heightened in the year 2021, from thousands of Covid-19 cases in a day to destructive typhoons. In the year 2022, we hope for a better year, a year that will allow us to thrive and overcome the battle against Covid-19 as a nation.

The year 2021 has taught us several lessons, as individuals and as a community. We have learned that life will always be uncertain. In the past 12 months, our lives were bound with uncertainty, we were challenged in various ways, yet, at the end of the day, we remained strong. Strong enough to face 2022 with so much certainty, strong enough to start all over again, and strong enough to learn what 2022 has to offer.

We can’t achieve what we aim for in the year 2022 right away, we cannot eliminate the ravages of the year 2021 with the changing of the calendar, but we can get another chance to be better. Good enough to write the legacy of another year, good enough to be able to live the life that we aspire to have, and good enough to recover from the scars of the past. Together, we can make 2022 better.

Let us be reminded that with each day comes renewed hope. Hope for a better year, hope for a better community, hope for getting our lives back, and hope for a better world, a hope for humanity.
